On
June 6, 2005 in the Great Hall of the Library of Congress, Robert
H. Blumberg, President of BlumbergExcelsior, Inc. received a special
Burton National Achievement Award for Reforming the Forms (www.burtonawards.com).
The award was presented by Hon. Ed Forstenzer, Superior Court of
California. Among the other winners of the National Achievement Award
were Judge Richard A. Posner, US Court of Appeals for the Seventh
Circuit, and Dean Darby Dickerson, Stetson University College of
Law.
Bob Blumberg’s award recognizes efforts that go back to
the early days of the Plain Language Movement. Besides spearheading
the revision of Blumberg’s Catalog of Forms to comply with
the Plain Language Laws enacted by New York and other states in
the 1970’s and 80’s, Bob took an active role in the
movement, participating in legal forums, contributing law journal
articles and lecturing to groups around the country. The award
also honored BlumbergExcelsior’s ongoing commitment to “reform
the forms.”
